Starting out

Brett joined the financial advice industry back in 1988, the year after the big stock market crash of ‘87. He was at the time a young home owner, with a big mortgage, and a chance meeting with a financial planner changed his life.  “This sounds corny, but this adviser showed me how to pay out my mortgage quickly, to budget and save, explained the power of compound interest over time. It was a light at the end of the tunnel to me”.  A few years later , the financial industry changed Brett’s life again. Working at Prudential, he met Sue, another young adviser (and the first female financial adviser for Prudential in Queensland).  When they started out, Brett and Sue met their clients through the nerve-wracking process of going door-to-door. Incredibly, many of our clients today still remember opening the front door to see Brett or Sue on their doorstep. In 1992, the couple decided to merge their individual practices, and married in 1993.

A growing company

The company has grown over the years and eventually became Tilley Financial Group Pty Ltd (now known as TFG), the company we know today. And although we won’t come knocking on your door anymore, we still try to provide that same level of personal service to all our clients.

Sue has taken a step back from an advisory role, instead playing the role of manager and bookkeeper, while pursuing her more creative side as an artist.

Brett and Sue’s daughters Anna and Laura, both helped around the office since they were teens, and while studying the girls worked in marketing and client care roles. Both have now moved on, with Anna running her own interior design business and Laura studying in Sydney. The girls both credit learning what customer service was about from working at TFG.

In August 2013, Lia Johnson joined the team with 10 years industry experience.  Lia makes sure the office runs smoothly.

Caroline Hepburn joined Tilley Financial Group in October 2014.  Caroline is the person you will normally first speak to on the phone, or at the front desk.  She is our Client Contact Administrator.  Call her if you want to book an appointment with Brett.
